Friday Flashback – Cutie Applique Cars – New Freebie Design

Hello, and welcome to another Friday Flashback.  This week we are looking at one of my favourite Applique collections – Cutie Applique Cars.

These vehicles came about after I saw a beautiful applique quilt for girls with cars.  I love collections that cross the gender gap, and I have always been happy when my children played with any toys they wanted to – Cars, Trucks, Dolls etc.

I asked one of my favourite artists to create a collection of cars for me, and I got to work.

One of the things that bothers me with applique designs, is the sheer number of times some designers want you to change colours.  Whilst my applique designs LOOK like they have a lot of colour changes, they are really only there showing where to place fabric, and tacking it down.  In my applique designs, all of the fabrics are placed down first, before all of the satin stitches are added at the end.  This means you are saving valuable time changing colours on your stitching.

Cutie Applique Cars has 16 different car designs, all suitable for the 5×7” hoop or above.  These cars are fairly retro in style, leading a vintage feel to the designs.  One of the things that I love with applique designs, is just how quickly you can change the style of the designs, based on the fabrics you use.  I have a box of fabric scraps which I use specifically for applique (hence why many of my applique designs have similar colour schemes).

My favourite project created with these designs would have to be the baby quilt.  I love this quilt for many reasons, one of which is because it is a total cheat quilt.  I created this quilt on waffle weave fabric, and I have so many people asking me how I can stitch on the waffle weave fabric, and I have one quick hack for you.  CHEAT!  I stitched the designs onto white homespun, and trimmed close around the edges of the design.  I them used Applifix on the back of the stitched design, and ironed it onto the waffle weave, before stitching around the design with invisible thread.

Other projects that I have made using these gorgeous Cutie Cars are pillowcases, a library bag, and a car activity kit.

Initially when I created the Cutie Applique Car collection, we gave away a design in this collection as a freebie.  You can access this design HERE.  As a thank you to all of our loyal customers, for the next week we are also offering a second Cutie Applique Car design as a free download.  Simply click HERE to collect your copy.

Thank you for taking this trip down memory lane with me, I hope you have enjoyed looking at this collection, and that it has inspired you to try some of these beautiful Applique Car designs.

Until next time, have a Stitchin’ Day.  Julie
