Hello, and welcome to another Friday Flashback. This week we are looking at a beautiful, sparkly and simple collection – All That Glitters – Butterflys.
I had been saving this collection of artwork for a couple of years. I knew I loved it, however I just didn’t know how to give them the look I wanted. Iridescent Embroidery Film was the answer!
It’s easy to think that this is a simplistic collection, with no real changes between the designs, up until you look at the details included with the designs. Each butterfly has been individually digitised, and created to have minimal, or no jump stitches, to make stitching a breeze.
Iridescent Embroidery Film is a sheet of opalescent film, that absorbs and reflects the fabric underneath it, and the colours you stitch with. This gives you the ultimate choices when it comes to your embroidery.
A great example of this is the two quilts which I made with these designs. I wanted to show just how much a design can be changed with colour and fabric, so I made both quilts exactly the same, with the only difference the colours used.
The way that I describe the differences, is that the first version – on the white background, looks sweet and innocent. They would be perfect on a baby project, or any project that you wanted to be elegant. When I turn the quilt around, I always get a totally different response. Its oohh. Using the film on a black background allows the deep opal colours of greens and purples to come through the film. I use the darker colours/fabrics a lot with older children/adults, or any place where I want a dramatic look.
Initially when I created the All That Glitters Butterfly collection, we gave away a design in this collection as a freebie. You can access this design HERE. As a thank you to all of our loyal customers, for the next week we are also offering a second All That Glitters Butterfly design as a free download. Simply click HERE to collect your copy.
Thank you for taking this trip down memory lane with me, I hope you have enjoyed looking at this collection, and that it has inspired you to try some of these beautiful All That Glitters Butterflys designs.
Until next time, have a Stitchin’ Day. Julie
